A2 Men start R sh 1/2 hey until the men face in, L/H to Partner, R/H to next in long wavey lines (8) Balance wave (4) Allem R x 1 (4)
B1 Balance and Swing Partner (16)
B2 Circle L 3/4, pass through along (8+), Allem L NEW Neighbor 1 1/2 (8-)
Notes: This dance recognizes the fact that at many times during a hey the dancers are lined up in long wavey lines. So the idea here was to "punctuate" a hey for 4 with some long wave balances. The timing is difficult to grasp so this is a dance for experienced dancers! First written in June 1996 the dance was renamed in January 1997. I always used to mistakenly refer to Beth Parkes' wonderful dance "The Forgotten Treasure" as "The Forbidden Pleasure", so I had to put a dance to the name....
Lisa Greenleaf calls this dance as a Becket, starting with the B2 part. Here's how the dance looks as a Becket
FORBIDDEN PLEASURE
(alternate formation) BECKET
A1 Circle L 3/4, pass thru; next neighbor Allem L 1-1/2
A2 1/2 hey, women pass R, make long wave, women face in; balance FOR AND BACK; 3/4 hey, (women R)
B1 L to partner, R to shadow, to make wave, women face out; balance, allem R shadow
B2 Bal and sw partner
In A2 the Balance Forward and Back helps the dancers to remember they must continue the hey. It may help to specify in the 3/4 hey that the women go over and back while the men just go over. At any rate the first wave balance is with neighbors and the second with partner and shadow. Thanks Lisa!
This is a pretty challenging dance either way so it should probably be
danced at a moderate tempo. I always liked notey reels.
